A Perfect Day.

A PERFECT day for me would comprise I think of rising at seven in the morning. I would have a small and pleasing chocolate bar with a cup of good tea. I would stroke the dogs a while and then wash. Having washed I should begin to cook a full English breakfast with tea and eat it whilst reading an annual of Punch. Next I should attend a solemn church service with an excellent choir, the Book of Common Prayer and the King James Bible in use. After that I would play three games of thoughtful chess with a friend over Mozart. Then I should like to play a game of tennis with the same friend or another in a secluded tennis court. Following this, I would prepare an extravagant luncheon which I affectionately call a Betty Weldon Luncheon; involving quail's eggs in celery salt, smoked salmon on bread and butter with lemon and cayenne pepper, prawns in a prawn cocktail sauce, Melton Mowbray pork pikes quartered and spread with an onion sauce, Scotch eggs, sardines on toast with onion, vinegar, and salt, and a side of ripe tomatoes cut up and mixed with salt, oil, vinegar, and sugar, also parma ham wrapped about pieces of vintage Cheddar cheese and apple, and all consumed with a half pint of British Bulldog beer.
