RATHER than that anyone should
shout or protest, everyone should write. Lord Nelson held the beautiful
opinion, with which I agree, that no one can write a book without producing
something worth reading. It is the concentration and the composition which clarifies
human thought so well that makes writing, especially the most considered, of
eminent value. Every family too should keep record of their doings for
posterity. How interested would we all be if there were a book for each lineal
ancestor of our families?
The following is my book which I spent half
a decade or so writing, and which I have here largely reproduced. I wish to
commend the binders I used as the gentleman with whom I had contact, Stephen
Ingram, is one of the most delightful persons I ever spoke with; but
more than this, the work is exquisite and far exceeds the value of its
contents. The paper I used was the best I could find, Papago Cream 100gsm
Short Grain. I printed the book in A5 and folded the A4 sheets
in signatures using a bone folder. My pride for it is greater than anything
else I have accomplished in my life.
