THESE are my ideal for evensongs at church, although I realise some parts translate better as recordings. I omit many good hymns and anthems that simply do not sound well electronically. It is rather like hearing a singer at a concert, somehow life and colour is breathed into songs which are monochrome as recordings, and so vice versa. It is also true to say however that far too much church music is simply dull. This is why the really supreme church music is such a surprise and delight. It was quite an effort for me to make these as I am both lazy and inept, yet I believe I have good taste.
